Mealings is a privately-owned and family run transport company founded in 2001 by Richard Mealing, a London taxi driver. With over 30 years’ experience working and driving in London, Richard identified a gap in the market for providing a caring and efficient non-emergency patient transport service. Initially offering his own services to hospitals to fill this void, it wasn’t long before Mealings grew to become registered as a fully comprehensive Hackney Carriage and Private-hire Operator.
Further diversification ensued over the following years to include a fleet of specialist wheelchair accessible vehicles with fully trained and supportive drivers. Initially operating at Mount Vernon and the Royal Free Hospitals, Mealings also provides patient transport services for the London Ambulance Service, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance Services.
Since its inception, Mealings has provided an efficient and comfortable patient transport service with a reputation for minimal waiting times. By 2003, Mealings customer portfolio had grown to include Watford General Hospital Renal Unit and many care homes and businesses in the Middlesex and Hertfordshire area.
By operating a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days per year service with a combined NEPTS and wheelchair accessible mini cab operation, it’s allowed Mealings to offer ultimate flexibility to facilitate late changes to bookings and out of hours services. With a lifesaving patient transport service and a proven business model, Mealings continued to grow over the following years, diversifying again into private hire passenger journeys and providing further Patient Transport Services at Northwick Park Hospital. In 2009 Mealings moved into its current home at Mount Vernon Hospital; taking over the transport office and providing an on-site service for hospital visitors.
Today, Mealings also provide NEPTS for multiple NHS CCGs and the East of England Ambulance Service, moving hundreds of patients every day. We are proud of our registration with the Care Quality Commission and all our team uphold the very highest standards in driver training, passenger care and safety.
