Mealings is a privately-owned and family run transport company founded in 2001 by Richard Mealing, a London taxi driver. With over 30 years’ experience working and driving in London, Richard identified a gap in the market for providing a caring and efficient non-emergency patient transport service. Initially offering his own services to hospitals to fill this void, it wasn’t long before Mealings grew to become registered as a fully comprehensive Hackney Carriage and Private-hire Operator.
Further diversification ensued over the following years to include a fleet of specialist wheelchair accessible vehicles with fully trained and supportive drivers. Initially operating at Mount Vernon and the Royal Free Hospitals, Mealings also provides patient transport services for the London Ambulance Service, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Ambulance Services.
Since its inception, Mealings has provided an efficient and comfortable patient transport service with a reputation for minimal waiting times. By 2003, Mealings customer portfolio had grown to include Watford General Hospital Renal Unit and many care homes and businesses in the Middlesex and Hertfordshire area.
By operating a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days per year service with a combined NEPTS and wheelchair accessible mini cab operation, it’s allowed Mealings to offer ultimate flexibility to facilitate late changes to bookings and out of hours services. With a lifesaving patient transport service and a proven business model, Mealings continued to grow over the following years, diversifying again into private hire passenger journeys and providing further Patient Transport Services at Northwick Park Hospital. In 2009 Mealings moved into its current home at Mount Vernon Hospital; taking over the transport office and providing an on-site service for hospital visitors.
Today, Mealings also provide NEPTS for multiple NHS CCGs and the East of England Ambulance Service, moving hundreds of patients every day. We are proud of our registration with the Care Quality Commission and all our team uphold the very highest standards in driver training, passenger care and safety.
Having been a London taxi driver for over 30 years, in 2001 Richard founded Mealings. It began as a small operation but the business organically grew because of the outstanding level of service being provided. The business was soon able to expand into different NHS Trusts and began working with multiple ambulance providers on a sub-contractor basis. Almost 19 years on and Mealings has evolved into a far larger operation facilitating around 36,000 journeys per year.
Richard now acts as Chairman, providing support and guidance to Joe, our Managing Director.
Having worked in the Patient Transport sector for several years, Tim joined Mealings in 2018 as a Controller. He brought with him huge amounts of experience and a modernised approach to the role resulting in him quickly being promoted to Senior Controller. Tim is well versed in the Planning aspect of the role and ensures that our fleet is meticulously planned to maximise efficiencies.
Linda has been involved in the business since it’s inception and as the business grew she quickly became Company Secretary and Finance Director. As the business has developed and modernised, Linda has been instrumental in ensuring that the heart of Mealings is maintained and that our core values, that have been key to our success, have not been lost. Linda now heads up our Finance and Accounts Department.
Patsy is an experienced Controller having worked in the industry for over 25 years. She is our Office Assistant supporting all aspects of service delivery at Mealings. Patsy heads up our day-to-day compliance monitoring ensuring that all of our Drivers and Staff are compliant with the policies and procedures we have in place.
Following on from a successful career in Politics and Financial Regulation, Joe joined Mealings as Compliance Director in 2017. Joe overhauled the Compliance Framework and implemented robust processes to ensure we met the standards set by both the CQC and the Independent Ambulance providers we worked with. in 2018, Joe became Managing Director of Mealings allowing Richard to take a step back from the day-to-day operations.
Jayne joined the Mealings team after 25 years as an Accounts Administrator. She originally joined Mealings as a Controller, working directly with customers both over the phone and face-to-face. Jayne immediately built up a great rapport with our customers including our key stakeholders from the NHS Trusts we work closely with.
Jayne is now the backbone of our Accounts function, supporting Linda on all things Finance.
Johnny began his career at Mealings as a NEPTS Driver. Over time he began taking on more responsibility of planning the fleet to ensure patients were taken to hospital on time, that we were meeting our KPIs as well as maximising efficiencies for the NHS. In 2019 he was promoted to Operations Manager overseeing the full fleet and day-to-day running of logistics.
Having dealt with patients first-hand, Johnny is passionate about instilling our ethos across all drivers and staff that all patients and customers should be treated as if they were a member of our family.
Robin joined Mealings in 2018 following a move from Manchester where he worked as a Controller for a large-scale taxi company. Robin brought with him a wealth of experience on our dispatch software as well as lots of experience of fleet management.
Robin is our resident technical whizz and is passionate about ensuring we are maximising our dispatch software and utilising it to it’s full potential.
Lauren joined the Mealings team in 2019 following a successful career in HR. With over 12 years’ experience in Customer Service, People Management and HR she places a strong emphasis on delivering an outstanding service to our customers.
She is passionate about data and strives to ensure that data-driven decision making is at the heart of our strategic planning to enable us to better serve our clients and customers.
We operate a convenient and modern taxi service based on traditional values. Located at Carpenders Park Station Rank, we offer Hackney Carriage licensed vehicles, metered fares, wheelchair accessibility and experienced drivers.
We accept bookings by phone, web and app, with the option to pay by cash or card at the end of each journey. Serving the South Oxhey and Carpenders Park areas, our metered fares start from just £2.80 and are perfect for local journeys.
